The next step is to install any patches that repair problems in your restore utilities (for example, frecover patches, or a patch for SAM if you use SAM to do your backups/recoveries). These patches should be kept on separate, well marked tapes so as to make their installation smooth. Perform these installs as per the instructions provided with the patches. The reason for doing this is to ensure that you are able to cleanly restore your files. You will not need to install any other patches at this stage, as they will be recovered as part of the next step.
