I. Integration

To meet additional management and measurement requirements, the desktop and software management solution can be integrated with the comprehensive suite of HP OpenView network- and systems-management solutions, such as PROLIN Service Management; Network Node Manager for integrated network and system management; IT/Operations for proactive management of integrated networks, systems, applications and databases; IT/Administrator for centralized administration of UNIX systems and PC platforms; HP OpenView storage solutions; HP OpenView resource and performance-management tools, including PerfView, MeasureWare and NetMetrix; and HP TopTools PC management software.

Integration with other management applications, such as Microsoft Systems Management Server, is also critical. The desktop and software management offerings are built on Microsoft Windows NT platforms and support the low-cost deployment and update of the Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 95 environments and the Microsoft Office 97 application suite.

Currently, HP's OpenView desktop and software management uses the systems-policy capabilities of Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT, and HP intends to leverage Microsoft's Zero Administration for Windows (ZAW) initiative to further this capability.

The desktop and software management solutions also support the Microsoft open database connectivity (ODBC) interface. HP intends to implement a Common Information Model (CIM) data model that will allow integration with CIM-compliant applications.
