PROBLEM TWO - Remotely Accessing the Console
PROBLEM TEXT
Can anyone recommend a good solution to run remote consoles? I'm thinking about purchasing a terminal server, but I'm sure there must be a good 3rd party solution out there.

Hook up a MicroAnnex XL Terminal server to the console port. If you telnet to the terminal server and connect to the port, it's as if you are standing next to the system. You can reboot the system and stop it at the boot admin prompt, the isl prompt, etc.
As far as security goes, you can either supply a password file to the server, or you can enable SecureID or Kerberos on it (there are 7 options). Once on the server, you still need to login to the HP before you can work (unless the last person forgot to log out at the console prompt).
In order to have access to a physical console device, hang a modem splitter (eg one from B+B electronics) off the HP and hook the terminal server and a dumb terminal to it. This way you can log in remotely, and access the system directly without the two stepping on each other.
Terminal servers can also be found through www.cd.com, Gandalf, BlackBox, Xyplex, Cisco, etc. (Gandalf supposedly has one that can even cycle the power for you.)
